Photoshop: Using Textures

What is a texture? A texture could be anything from clouds to the dirt on the road outside your house. This tutorial will teach you the use of textures.
All images used in this tutorial are copyright © Stock Exchange, Resurgere, Photocase, Mayang, Free Range Stock.

Step 1

I'll be using this image from Stock Exchange.

Step 2

Next we'll be adding a blood (it's fake blood) texture from Resurgere to the image. I found that setting the blending mode to Multiply worked the best. When applying a texture, always try the various blending modes that are available.
In the image below, I've masked the parts I don't want, and also used the Liquify (Filter - Liquify) tools to adapt certain parts of the texture to the face.

Step 3

Next I added a texture (from Resurge as well) of tree bark over the face as well. I set the layer to Soft Light, and masked the parts I wanted to remove. I used the Liquify tools on this texture as well.

Step 4

The final image is below. I've also applied a red colorored Overlay to the eyes, and a beige tone (Mode: Color, 40% Opacity) to bring down the saturation a bit.
